    Local Vibes

In the heart of the Victorian Goldfields region, Maryborough boasts grand gold rush architecture, lush gardens, antiques, art galleries, and a growing food and wine scene. When you visit the town you are on the lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung People.

Begin your stay with a stroll through the splendid cluster of heritage buildings, including the Court House, Town Hall, Post Office and Old Fire Station, which display the fine workmanship of a bygone era.

    Station to station

Mark Twain once described Maryborough as a 'railway station with a town attached'. The historic railway station is home to an antique emporium, art gallery, regional wine centre, tapas bar and restaurant. Browse through a vast array of antiques, collectables and books under the platform's roof if you're in town for the quarterly antique market.

    Stories in the trees

Head south out of Maryborough to the rock water wells along Wells Track. See what are regarded as some of Victoria's best examples of Aboriginal rock water wells and look out for the scarred trunks of 'canoe trees' in the area.

Continue your journey off the beaten track in the nearby box-ironbark forests, which are rich with native plants and birdlife, and offer superb displays of wattle and wildflowers in the springtime.

    In the galleries

If you're an art lover, be sure to visit the Central Goldfields Regional Art Gallery for a range of contemporary exhibitions housed in the old town fire station. Spend a day at the Possum Gully Fine Arts Gallery and see national and international artworks on paper, as well as original garden sculptures set in the gallery's beautiful grounds.

We acknowledge the First Peoples throughout Victoria and their ongoing connection to the land and waters.

For over 60,000 years they have cared for Country and preserved our beautiful landscapes. We pay our respects to Elders, past and present.

We are grateful for their custodianship, their knowledge and their resilience.

We would also like to acknowledge our First Peoples as Australia’s original storytellers. Their rich storytelling inspires us to share how special Melbourne and Victoria is with the world.
