    Fresh Air Vibes

Barmah National Park, located in The Murray region's famous Sun Country is an adventure lover's paradise and home to the world's largest River Red Gum forest. Whether you're into fishing, horse riding or bushwalking, swimming or canoeing, the forests and waterways of Barmah National Park provide abundant opportunities for endless fun in the great outdoors.

    Nature all around

Camp out along the riverbank and soak up the natural surroundings from morning until nightfall. Pitch your tent on the riverbank, cast a line for Murray Cod and Golden Perch, or just take a wander through the famous river red gums, which can grow to 45 metres and can live for up to 500 years.

Delve deeper into the forest, see local birdlife, and find ancient Indigenous sites on local walking trails, including the Yamyabuc Discovery Trail, the Lakes Loop Track and the Broken Creek Loop Track.

    Birdlife

Bird watchers from all around Australia flock to the forest ecosystem, which is listed under the Ramsar Convention for wetlands and plays host to some 220 species of native birds.

    Beaches and flood plains

Sandy river beaches make for great swimming spots, although it is important to be aware of strong river currents and submerged logs. Visit during the springtime after the river floods to enjoy a magical canoeing trip. Weave your way through the trees and listen to the sounds of native birds, frogs and other wildlife.

    Traditional Owners

The Yorta Yorta People are the Traditional Owners of the Barmah National Park and have inhabited the area for tens of thousands of years. A strong bond between people and the land is a defining part of Yorta Yorta culture, so please show respect by caring for the environment when visiting.

    Travel safe

Weather and travel conditions can change quickly, so it is important to always check the local conditions on the Parks Victoria website before you leave home. Get familiar with the Bushfire Safety section on the Parks Victoria website for tips on how to stay safe during the hot season.

We acknowledge the First Peoples throughout Victoria and their ongoing connection to the land and waters.

For over 60,000 years they have cared for Country and preserved our beautiful landscapes. We pay our respects to Elders, past and present.

We are grateful for their custodianship, their knowledge and their resilience.

We would also like to acknowledge our First Peoples as Australia’s original storytellers. Their rich storytelling inspires us to share how special Melbourne and Victoria is with the world.
