    Sips & Stories

Scion is a progressive Rutherglen winery offering a modern spin on the region's traditional grape varietals. Expect Durif redesigned and Muscat reimagined. Expect the unexpected.

Located in the Rutherglen wine region in North East Victoria, the cellar door is nestled in the natural landscape just two kilometres south of the township. Scion was awarded Rutherglen's Best Small Cellar Door in the 2022 Gourmet Traveller Wine Awards.

Established in 2002 from the ground up, Scion was inspired by Winemaker Rowly's great-great-great grandfather George Francis Morris, a pioneering Australian vigneron.

As one of Rutherglen's most contemporary winemakers (and People's Choice in the 2022 Young Gun of Wine Awards), Rowly aims to make interesting, sometimes unexpected, but always delicious wines. In small batches, he handcrafts wines that represent modern Rutherglen.

Sustainability underpins every decision made at Scion, with a focus on biological management of the soil ecosystems in their vineyards and the use of solar power and rainwater to run the winery and cellar door. A Tesla charging station is available to cellar door visitors. Scion's vineyards are Sustainable Winegrowing Australia Certified.

Visit for a hosted tasting experience or pre-order a picnic hamper to enjoy among the gum trees.

We acknowledge the First Peoples throughout Victoria and their ongoing connection to the land and waters.

For over 60,000 years they have cared for Country and preserved our beautiful landscapes. We pay our respects to Elders, past and present.

We are grateful for their custodianship, their knowledge and their resilience.

We would also like to acknowledge our First Peoples as Australia’s original storytellers. Their rich storytelling inspires us to share how special Melbourne and Victoria is with the world.
