Before you set out for Bushrangers Bay, take the time to follow the scenic route along the boardwalk to the famous Cape Schanck and its lighthouse, built from local stone in 1859. At the base of the basalt promontory lie numerous rock pools, and at its tip stands a spectacular volcanic plug called Pulpit Rock.

The walk to the bay passes coast banksias and abundant bird life. It offers sweeping views of the wild coastline and on the point of Bushrangers Bay, an impressive spire called Elephant Rock.

To make your way from Cape Schanck to Portsea, head north from Cape Schanck along the 27 kilometres of walking track to Portsea Ocean Beach.
