This coastal stretch is known as Cave Beach, owing to the presence of natural caves nestled into the cliffside along the rocky shore. Upon reaching the raised parking area, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the Bass Coast region. Keep an eye out for whales that migrate along this coast from May through November.
As you descend the beach trail, take in the information about the area’s prehistoric past when dinosaurs roamed the land. This beach is the site of the Dinosaur Dreaming excavation, where over 15,000 bones, teeth, and footprints from small dinosaurs have been discovered, dating back 115 million years.
At low tide, the expansive rock platform is exposed, revealing a multitude of rock pools and fascinating geological formations. During this time, you can venture along the rocks to access the cave.
