    Local Vibes

Soak up the fresh sea air, stunning natural attractions and maritime history in Aireys Inlet, a seaside hamlet on the Great Ocean Road.

    Ghosts at sea
Let the looming Split Point Lighthouse be your guide as you wander around town. Built in 1891 and perched on the cliffs 70 metres above sea level, the lighthouse is the subject of local ghost stories and maritime legends. Take a tour to learn more about the region’s past and enjoy sweeping views of the Eagle Rock Marine Sanctuary.

    Sand and surf
Travel a few kilometres west to the main surf beach of Fairhaven, which is patrolled through the summer months. Bust out the surfboard, enjoy a swim with the kids, or venture into the nearby coves of Sandy Gully and Step Beach where you can explore the rock pools or try a spot of snorkelling. Inlet beach, with its grassy slopes and picnic area is perfect for those with little kids, although the beach is not patrolled.

    Fun in the sun
Pencil in time for cycling and tennis or hit the skate park to test out your latest tricks. Make a day of it with lunch along the coast. Let the kids loose on the playground at The Inlet, or enjoy a barbecue at Distillery Creek or Moggs Creek.

    Trails and lookouts
Walking opportunities abound in Aireys Inlet with the Surf Coast Walk, the Cliff Top Walk and the Lighthouse Precinct Walk all within easy reach. Take in stunning views of the coastline on the Cliff Top Walk and discover the fascinating surf culture, abundant native wildlife and coastal forests along the Surf Coast Walk. And keep your eye out for whales in season.

The Lighthouse Precinct Walk winds its way from the lighthouse past heritage-listed buildings and on to the Allen Noble Sanctuary, a native wetland and home to myriad birdlife.

We acknowledge the First Peoples throughout Victoria and their ongoing connection to the land and waters.

For over 60,000 years they have cared for Country and preserved our beautiful landscapes. We pay our respects to Elders, past and present.

We are grateful for their custodianship, their knowledge and their resilience.

We would also like to acknowledge our First Peoples as Australia’s original storytellers. Their rich storytelling inspires us to share how special Melbourne and Victoria is with the world.
