    Local Vibes

Mixing heritage with modern culture, Albury Wodonga blends country pace and city lifestyle with its offerings of historical buildings, cultural events, vibrant shopping precincts and tree-lined gardens.

Straddling the state line that separates Victoria and New South Wales, Albury Wodonga is united by the Murray River that winds its way between the two cities. Once a busy trade route for paddle steamers, the river now serves as a backdrop to the cities’ parklands, walking trails, golf courses and cultural events.

    Outdoor fun
Join the happy throng who descend on the sparkly waters of Lake Hume in the warmer months. Pitch a tent, take the boat out, or cast a line at some of the region’s best fishing spots.

Explore the winding walkways of the historic Albury Botanic Gardens, founded more than 130 years ago, and learn about their horticultural significance.

    Cultural crossings
Discover Albury Wodonga’s rich heritage at the LibraryMuseum and immerse yourself in the Crossing Place: A Story of Albury, an exhibition chronicling the city’s evolution from first contact with the Wiradjuri people to the present day. Walk through the nearby Wonga Wetlands on the Wagirra Trail to learn more about the local Indigenous history and see local wildlife.

Catch visiting exhibitions by renowned artists at the Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA). See live shows by national and international performers and, for festival fun, visit during Write Around the Murray or the Music in the Gardens season.

    Walking histories
Uncover the region’s pioneering past at local museums or take the Albury CBD Walking Tour to explore Albury’s grand architecture, most notably the restored Albury Railway Station.

Discover Australia’s migrant history at the Bonegilla Migrant Experience. Built in 1947, Block 19 Bonegilla was Australia’s first migration reception centre, housing over 320,000 migrants from 1947 to 1971.

    Little kids, big adventures
Indoor and outdoor activities keep the young ones happy year-round. From the local parks and the water slides at Totally Fun to indoor rock climbing, laser tag, mini golf and paintball, there’s no end of fun to be had. And the annual Wodonga Children’s Fair in October is not to be missed.

We acknowledge the First Peoples throughout Victoria and their ongoing connection to the land and waters.

For over 60,000 years they have cared for Country and preserved our beautiful landscapes. We pay our respects to Elders, past and present.

We are grateful for their custodianship, their knowledge and their resilience.

We would also like to acknowledge our First Peoples as Australia’s original storytellers. Their rich storytelling inspires us to share how special Melbourne and Victoria is with the world.
