    Local Vibes

Take in the Murray River's historic charm in Echuca and Moama, Australia's paddle steamer capital. Steeped in heritage, the twin towns are home to the world's largest fleet of operating riverboats as well as fine-dining restaurants and an array of water sports.

    A world apart

Named after the Aboriginal word for 'meeting of the waters', the Port of Echuca, on the land of the Yorta Yorta people, was originally one of the busiest on the Murray. You can picture the bustling riverine trade routes of old as you take a river cruise aboard a paddle steamer.

Afterwards, wander up the red gum walkways towards the Echuca Port and Discovery Centre to learn more about Echuca's rich history.

    Mixing it up

Visit in sunny February for one of the world's biggest water ski festivals, the Southern 80. Music fans will love the Riverboats Music Festival, which takes place in a natural riverside amphitheatre under river red gums, while winter visitors need not fret as the popular Winter Blues Festival kicks into gear in July.

Savour the contemporary regional menu with river views at Morrison's, fill up on stateside pub grub at the American Hotel, or slow it down with a visit to St Anne's Cellar Store. Keep the good times rolling at friendly country pubs, traditional bakeries and chic wine bars.

    Outdoor living

Soak up the year-round Mediterranean climate in a houseboat and then cool off with a swim. Cast a line for Murray Cod, see the sights on a boating trip, or stay on dry land with a horse riding session at Billabong Ranch Adventure Park. Golfers can work on their swing at the Rich River Golf Club Resort.

We acknowledge the First Peoples throughout Victoria and their ongoing connection to the land and waters.

For over 60,000 years they have cared for Country and preserved our beautiful landscapes. We pay our respects to Elders, past and present.

We are grateful for their custodianship, their knowledge and their resilience.

We would also like to acknowledge our First Peoples as Australia’s original storytellers. Their rich storytelling inspires us to share how special Melbourne and Victoria is with the world.
