    Local Vibes

Not far from the New South Wales border lies sunny Nathalia, on the banks of Broken Creek in the heart of the lands of the Yorta Yorta people. As a part of Sun Country in Western Moira, Nathalia exudes legendary country charm and the surrounding region is brimming with nature, history and art.

    Sun Country

Nathalia's year-round Mediterranean climate makes it the perfect place to start your outdoor adventure.

Take some time to explore the natural wonders of the Barmah National Park on the many tracks and trails, or make your way through the mysterious waterways in a kayak or canoe. Marvel at the 500-year-old river red gums and learn about the indigenous history of the area. Soak up some sun and history before relaxing on the banks of the Murray River or Broken Creek.

Go on a tour through the wetlands of Barmah Forest, looking out for the 220 species of birds and 550 different types of plants. To see the sights at your own pace, set off on a multi-day kayaking journey from Morgans Beach to Barmah township.

Back in town, Nathalia Golf Course's nine immaculately presented greens and fairways make a very attractive par 70 course.

    Connect with your artistic side

Brush up on your art skills by taking a class at the Cockatoo Island Art Retreat – a relaxed and welcoming environment with painting and sculpture classes available for all ages and abilities.

If you prefer to let your taste buds do the creative work, travel across the region via the Farm Gate Trail. Source the finest fresh produce, cheeses, olives, chocolates, wines and craft beers direct from the producers.

    Nathalia's heritage

Learn about the fascinating and diverse past of this iconic region at the Barmah Forest Heritage and Education Centre in Nathalia. To gain a better understanding of the park's original inhabitants, take a tour with a local Aboriginal guide and see scarred trees, mounds, stone artefact scatters and middens. As you pass through the town, keep an eye out for the many historic buildings still standing.

We acknowledge the First Peoples throughout Victoria and their ongoing connection to the land and waters.

For over 60,000 years they have cared for Country and preserved our beautiful landscapes. We pay our respects to Elders, past and present.

We are grateful for their custodianship, their knowledge and their resilience.

We would also like to acknowledge our First Peoples as Australia’s original storytellers. Their rich storytelling inspires us to share how special Melbourne and Victoria is with the world.
