    Fresh Air Vibes

Travel out to the Murray Sunset National Park to see the famous Pink Lakes for yourself. Located in the far northwest corner of Victoria, the lakes are a popular attraction for photographers, with their unusual colouring changing throughout the day, from a deep pink to a bright white.

    Vivid colours

The lakes' waters are actually crystal clear and the beds of the four lakes are made up of solid salt. It is the red algae (Dunaliella salina), that grows in the water, which gives the lakes their pink hue.

    Nature trails

Choose from a number of walking trails around the lakes, including the Lake Becking Nature Walk, the Kline Nature Walk and the Lake Hardy Nature Walk. Keep an eye out for local kangaroos, wallabies, emus and echidnas as you wander.

Bird watchers may see red-rumped parrots, mallee ringnecks, spotted pardalotes and white-fronted chats, at home in the region.

    Camping out

Discover more of the area on a longer stay. Pitch your tent at campgrounds located at Lake Crosbie or Lake Becking. Capture amazing photos of the lakes at sunset. Cycle along Pioneer Drive, or visit in springtime to see thousands of wildflowers in bloom.

    Travel safe

Bring sun protection and insect repellent as the area around the lakes can be hot and insects very active. Weather and travel conditions can change quickly, so always check local conditions on the Parks Victoria website before you go.

We acknowledge the First Peoples throughout Victoria and their ongoing connection to the land and waters.

For over 60,000 years they have cared for Country and preserved our beautiful landscapes. We pay our respects to Elders, past and present.

We are grateful for their custodianship, their knowledge and their resilience.

We would also like to acknowledge our First Peoples as Australia’s original storytellers. Their rich storytelling inspires us to share how special Melbourne and Victoria is with the world.
