    Local Vibes

Breathe in the sea air, listen to the waves and while away days on the foreshore at Point Lonsdale, on the tip of the Bellarine Peninsula on Wadawurrung country. The picture of seaside tranquillity, complete with historic lighthouse, surf break and calm bay waters, this lovely hamlet has long been a favourite for holidaymakers.

    Bayside

Take a dip at the sheltered bay beach with its pleasant foreshore reserve and barbecue facilities or surf the waves on the ocean back beach. Wander along Point Lonsdale Pier and take in views of the lighthouse and coastline, or bring your rod and reel and cast a line off the pier.

Reward the day's efforts with a quiet coffee at a cafe along the esplanade, enjoy an afternoon sipping international wines at Noble Rot Wine Bar, or check out the local shops and boutiques on main street.

    Local history

A tour of the famous Point Lonsdale Lighthouse, used to guide big ships through the treacherous waters of The Rip, is a great way to learn about local marine history. Visit the cave of 'Wild White Man' William Buckley, an escaped convict who lived for 32 years with the local Indigenous community and supposedly sheltered in a cave under the lighthouse.

    High drama

View the dramatic scenery from high points along Point Lonsdale's ocean foreshore, overlooking The Rip. This notorious entrance to Port Phillip Bay, where ocean and bay waters collide through a kilometre-wide outlet, creates one of the world's most dangerous stretches of water.

We acknowledge the First Peoples throughout Victoria and their ongoing connection to the land and waters.

For over 60,000 years they have cared for Country and preserved our beautiful landscapes. We pay our respects to Elders, past and present.

We are grateful for their custodianship, their knowledge and their resilience.

We would also like to acknowledge our First Peoples as Australia’s original storytellers. Their rich storytelling inspires us to share how special Melbourne and Victoria is with the world.
