    The event vibe

Bakers from near and far around the country will converge on Merbein to find out who has baked the ultimate award winning vanilla slice.

Throughout the day there will be live entertainment, children's entertainment and activities, vanilla slices to buy and try, wine tastings and market stalls.

A great family fun day out.

The Great Vanilla Slice Triumph began in Ouyen in 1998 after then-Victorian premier Jeff Kennett claimed the vanilla slice from the town’s Mallee Bakery was the best he’d ever tasted. Over the years the competition has attracted entries from far and wide. In 2012 it moved to Merbein.

We acknowledge the First Peoples throughout Victoria and their ongoing connection to the land and waters.

For over 60,000 years they have cared for Country and preserved our beautiful landscapes. We pay our respects to Elders, past and present.

We are grateful for their custodianship, their knowledge and their resilience.

We would also like to acknowledge our First Peoples as Australia’s original storytellers. Their rich storytelling inspires us to share how special Melbourne and Victoria is with the world.
