    Local Vibes

Uncover a vibrant creative community and hear the stories of historic Yackandandah, a quaint village in the High Country, which has been classified by the National Trust.

    National Trust classification

Take it slow and meander through the old mining township. Step over original bluestone gutters to see the elaborate façades built during the nineteenth century gold rush. Guide yourself, or follow the Historic Buildings Street Walk.

Discover the village's secrets direct from locals in museums, antique stores and craft galleries, while admiring the ornate shops with their original fittings.

    Gold rush history

Dig for gold rush history with an underground tour of the Karrs Reef Gold Mine and at the historic local cemetery, notable for its large section of graves devoted to Chinese gold miners.

Take a walk to the picturesque Yackandandah Gorge or explore the extensive network of local mountain bike trails featuring remnants of Yackandandah’s golden past. Spot native birds and animals in the bushland, or go bushwalking and horse riding.

    New treasures

Despite its rich history, the locals have their eyes fixed on the future. Yackandandah is home to acclaimed artists of all styles, from musicians and painters to potters, stitchers and sculptors. Take a stroll through this inspiring village to hear the music and check out the unique works in galleries, shops and studios. Visit in March when the sweet sounds of the Yackandandah Folk Festival take over the streets.

    Food and wine

Enjoy hearty meals in real country pubs, and then roll out to take advantage of Yackandandah's location on the edge of the fertile Kiewa Valley. Stop at boutique wineries and fill your boot with local meats, fruit, nuts, honey and preserves.

We acknowledge the First Peoples throughout Victoria and their ongoing connection to the land and waters.

For over 60,000 years they have cared for Country and preserved our beautiful landscapes. We pay our respects to Elders, past and present.

We are grateful for their custodianship, their knowledge and their resilience.

We would also like to acknowledge our First Peoples as Australia’s original storytellers. Their rich storytelling inspires us to share how special Melbourne and Victoria is with the world.
