    Local Vibes

Relax, unwind and leave the city stress behind with a weekend in Sassafras, on the lands of the Wurundjeri People. Discover the village's 19th-century charm, stroll through lush English gardens, and savour an afternoon Devonshire tea.

Devonshire teas, specialty teas and teapots

Hop from brunch to a late lunch to dinner in Sassafras's cafes and restaurants, and come back for seconds in the quaint tearooms. Take Devonshire tea at Miss Marple's Tearoom, an authentic English cottage inspired by Agatha Christie.

Between meals browse in the antique stores and the local specialist shops. Pick up local wine and produce at Ripe or General Food Store. Find wooden toys and handmade puppets at Geppetto's Workshop, and grab a teapot as a souvenir at Tea Leaves along with black, green and herbal teas from across the globe.

    Walking off the indulgence

Take a wander through the magical Alfred Nicholas Gardens or the nearby George Tindale Memorial Gardens and feel as though you're in another world.

Linger in nearby Sherbrooke Forest as you stroll past waterfalls and picnic grounds on the nature walk trails. Stretch the legs on a hike along the 13-kilometre Sassafras Creek Forest Trail to Emerald, taking in lush fern gullies, mosses and towering Mountain Ash.

We acknowledge the First Peoples throughout Victoria and their ongoing connection to the land and waters.

For over 60,000 years they have cared for Country and preserved our beautiful landscapes. We pay our respects to Elders, past and present.

We are grateful for their custodianship, their knowledge and their resilience.

We would also like to acknowledge our First Peoples as Australia’s original storytellers. Their rich storytelling inspires us to share how special Melbourne and Victoria is with the world.
